Are you in a safe, private place? Okay, fine don’t leave your desk. Just shield your screen, and avoid your co-workers prying eyes because we have some raw, unfiltered payments data coming at you.
A little context for what you’re about to see: We recently added Dee Hock, Founder of Visa and the “Original #PaymentsGeek (OPG)”, to our advisory board. When he founded Visa, he thought about the organization in the context of ‘what payments OUGHT to be’, not what they were at that time. He challenged us to do the same when thinking about Modo’s COIN and how it will impact the industry.
We decided to cheat on Dee’s test and ask a bunch of payments people for their answers. So we bought a bunch of post-it notes, and tempted attendees of Money20/20 Europe with fidget spinners in exchange for their thoughts on what payments ought to be . . .
We didn’t leave everyone completely in the lurch, though. Bruce, our CEO, and Ather Williams who runs Global Transaction Services at Bank of America Merrill Lynch, you know basically the Magic Mikes of payments, got up on the Money20/20 Europe stage and bared it all about their relationship for the good of the payments industry.

Okay now to the good stuff. What you really came here for.
We had 854 total respondents (aka 854 parents whose kids have been begging for fidget spinners) who answered the question throughout the three days at the conference. We’ve taken all the Post-It note ideas and are sharing them with you here.
!!!!! WARNING GRAPHIC CONTENT AHEAD !!!!!!
We warned you that it was super graphic!
Everyone at Money2020 Europe got a voice in what they think payments ought to be. Simple, Secure and Instant took home gold, silver and bronze respectively and were all mentioned in 10%+ of sticky note.
All you analysts wondering how we got this data - here are some pictures of our research tools.
If this STILL isn’t graphic enough for you, reach out to us. We’re happy to give you the rundown of every single post-it note. Every. Single. One. We are also here to talk about your thoughts on what payments ought to be, but you might want to call the Modo hotline after hours for our special chat line. Operators are standing by.
